AA Halsey Opens Up About Health Struggle in "The End," Lead Single from Upcoming Album By Emily Mae Czachor

AA Singer-songwriter Halsey delves into the complex intersection of love and illness with "The End," a poignant ballad released as the lead single from her highly anticipated fifth album, yet to be titled.

AA Following the acclaim of 2021's "If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power," the Grammy nominee's latest track delves into a harrowing health battle and a relationship fraught with existential questions.

AA Halsey provided a glimpse into the song's release on Instagram earlier this week and officially announced it in her recent social media post, sharing personal videos documenting her own health struggles, a subject she had not previously discussed publicly. Though she did not specify the illness in her initial announcement, Halsey revealed in a subsequent post on Wednesday that she was diagnosed in 2022 with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder.

AA "Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life," Halsey wrote in the caption of her latest post. "After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors. After 2 years, I'm feeling better and I'm more grateful than ever to have music to turn to. I can't wait to get back where I belong: With you all."

AA Expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans in the past 24 hours, Halsey thanked them for standing by her during her health journey.

AA "In short, I'm lucky to be alive. In long, I wrote an album. And it starts with 'The End.' Out now," Halsey captioned her Instagram post on Tuesday, which included footage of her visibly in discomfort, massaging her calves and with medical tape wrapped around her arm.

AA "Seriously, I feel like an old lady," she says in one of the videos. "I told myself I'm giving myself two more years to be sick. At 30, I'm having a rebirth and I'm not going to be sick and I'm going to look super hot and have lots of energy. And I'm just going to get to redo my 20s in my 30s."

AA The post also features another video where she sits in an infusion chair, donning a face mask. Halsey addresses the camera, stating that it's "day one of treatment," followed by subsequent footage offering a broader view of her hospital visits, presumably recorded over a span of time.

AA Accompanying the release of her new album "The End," a press statement reveals Halsey's charitable initiative, with donations to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Lupus Research Alliance. Both organizations are tagged in her Instagram post's caption.

AA Leukemia and lymphoma are distinct cancers affecting the blood and the lymphatic system respectively, while lupus is an autoimmune condition where the body's immune system attacks healthy tissue. It can manifest in various organs, joints, skin, and circulation. T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders can manifest in different forms, including various types of leukemia and lymphoma, as outlined by the National Institute of Health.

AA In the opening verse of "The End," Halsey sings, "Every couple of years now, a doctor says I'm sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me / And at first, it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain / And I don't like to complain, but I'm saying sorry."

AA Halsey has previously shared about diverse health challenges, including her 2022 diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). At that time, she mentioned ongoing investigations with her doctors to uncover a potential autoimmune-related root cause.
